In line with public demand, the Government of Liberia – through the Ministry of Justice – has forwarded Lucas Richard to court for attempting to slit the throat of his girlfriend, Jessica Lloyd.

On September 14, 2023, The Liberia National Police (LNP) apprehended Lucas Richard after members of the public were alarmed by his harmful act to the police.

Since his arrest, there has been increased pressure from the citizens demanding justice for Jessica both online and physically. The citizens’ urge for justice intensified when Lucas denied the act in his first interview, claiming that the victim was hit by a motorbike rider.

Contrary to his claim, the victim – while on her sick bed – admitted that Mr. Richard attempted to slit her throat. It was a bike tricycle rider who rescued her.

Lucas Richard was escorted to the Monrovia Central Prison, famously known as South Beach, on September 19, 2023. He will remain in prison until his scheduled trial date.

As the news surfaced yesterday, there was jubilation everywhere on social media. Read the Justice Ministry’s statement below:
