Monrovia — Residents of Nickley Town in Rehab Community, Montserrado County, are in shock after a young motorcyclist, known only as ‘Papie,’ died on February 19, 2023, following a bet he made with a friend.
According to eyewitnesses, Papie and his friend bet that he could consume ten bottles of a locally produced beverage called “Spirit” within a certain time frame. The bet was for L$2,700 on Papie’s part and an iPhone on his friend’s part.
After consuming five bottles of the potent beverage, Papie became overwhelmed and ran home complaining of stomach pain. Sadly, Papie died the next day. The cause of death is believed to be alcohol poisoning, as “Spirit” has a high alcohol content of 42%.
It is unclear how the family reacted to the situation, but Papie’s remains are currently at the Alfred Butler Funeral Home in Paynesville, Monrovia.
Eyewitnesses to the tragic event have expressed their shock and sadness, with some calling for more awareness campaigns about the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption.
