Former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott has spoken out about the brutal attack on her family in Brewerville, Liberia, where her niece Charloe Musu was tragically killed.
In a statement given to the press, Cllr. Scott revealed that she had reported several attempted break-ins at her home in the days prior to the incident, and had alerted the Liberia National Police.
Describing the events of that fateful night, Cllr. Scott said that a man, believed to be one of the robbers from previous attempts, gained access to the sleeping quarters of her home.
“No one knows for sure how the man got in there,” she said. “Police say there is no evidence of break-in, but I suspect the murderer probably gained access to the house earlier in the day when the steel gate to the living quarters would likely be open, and hid somewhere in there until the evening hours, when we were all going to bed.”
Cllr. Scott recounted how Charloe, who had just received a letter from Starz University saying that she was eligible to graduate, was attacked when she tried to run to her aunt’s door for help.

“She valiantly tried to fight him off and prevent him from taking the keys to the sleeping quarters,” Cllr. Scott said. “He began stabbing Charloe as she tried to fight him off.”
After spraying the attacker with pepper spray, Cllr. Scott managed to chase him away, but not before he had taken her laptop and the phones of everyone in the house.
Two other family members were also injured in the attack, including Alice Johnson, who is critically wounded and currently in hospital.
“What Did I Do?” Cllr. Scott kept asking herself, as sympathizers poured in at her Sinkor’s residence where she was relocated on Thursday morning, under armed police protection.
Charloe’s death has left the family devastated, with Cllr. Scott describes her niece as “a trusted daughter, sister and outstanding student.” She also spoke about the close bond between them, saying, “Charloe was like my boy child. She could even change the tire on my car.”
The Liberia National Police has launched an investigation into the attack and is urging anyone with information to come forward. Cllr. Scott is currently under police protection and has called for increased security measures to protect the citizens of Liberia.
“No one should have to go through what my family has gone through,” she said. “We need to work together to ensure that our communities are safe and secure for everyone.”
