A US-based Liberian social scientist and expert in psycho-social counseling, Garmai Tokpah, has called for a collective effort in the fight against illicit drugs in Liberia. This call comes amidst the proliferation of illicit substances in the country and the recent seizure of US$100 million worth of cocaine in Topoe Village, a western suburb of the capital, Monrovia.

In an interview with Sinewsblog on Saturday from Nashville, Tennessee, Miss Tokpah urged teachers, parents, and law enforcement officers to join forces in the fight against illicit drugs in Liberia. Specifically, she called on parents to be vigilant and act as “police” for their children by routinely checking their backpacks and shoes every time they come home from school.
Miss Tokpah also cautioned parents to get involved with the day-to-day activities of their children, including the friends they associate with. She warned Liberian parents that if they allow their children to be raised on the street, the outcome will be detrimental, as many of the young kids will become addicted to drugs.

Miss Tokpah emphasized that the fight against illicit drugs in Liberia should not be left solely to law enforcement agencies. She reiterated her earlier call for a collaborative effort to combat the spread of illicit substances in Liberia, which she termed “the war against drugs.”
In conclusion, Miss Tokpah called for a united effort in the fight against illicit drugs in Liberia, urging all hands to be on deck to combat the proliferation of drugs in the country.

Thanks and appreciation is well deserved Mr. Nuita Womgbah for this well written article. How can I forget to say thank you to the team at Liberian News, for affording you the opportunity to shine light on what we do as a team, via radio FAWUL, every Saturday Night. Drugs abuse/ addiction is a serious social issues that affects us all as a society. It is my hope that we can all work collectively in educating our young people about the danger of drugs, that drugs is poison and can lead to death.
