Monrovia – The Commander of the Women and Children Protection Service (WACPS) division of the Liberia National Police, Commander Jenkins N. Mangou, and his principal deputy, Alexander Franklin, are currently under investigation at the National Police Headquarters in Monrovia. They are being probed for allegedly accepting a bribe of US$5,000 to release a murder suspect who is now at large.

According to sources, the two senior police officers assigned in Ganta City, Nimba County, are accused of taking the money and allowing the suspect, Mohammed, to escape along with his two children after reportedly killing his girlfriend at a local guest house in Ganta, near Pearson community.

The incident dates back to early May 2023 when the lifeless body of a woman in her early 40s, identified as Oretha Korwood from Gbeyi-Guawin Town in Electoral District#9, Nimba County, was discovered in one of the rooms of the F2 Guest House in Pearson community, Ganta City. Suspect Abraham Mohammed had taken the victim to the guest house for the night.

Allegedly, Mohammed murdered Korwood inside the guest house using a generator rope and other instruments. David Kenzie, the manager of the F2 Guest House, revealed that the suspect had provided false information, including a fake name and cell phone number upon check-in. After spending the first night, he allegedly killed the victim, who was the mother of his two children and left her corpse behind before fleeing.

Kenzie, a former district education officer, expressed his dismay, noting that his staff discovered the closed room the following day when they went to clean it. Concerned, they promptly informed the police about the situation.

Since the incident in early May, Commander Archie Dennis and the Crimes Service Department of the Ganta Police launched an investigation. However, there had been no significant updates until recent revelations about the alleged bribery and compromise came to light. As a result, the investigation has shifted its focus to Commander Jenkins N. Mangou and Deputy Alexander Franklin.

Authorities are determined to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served and hold accountable those involved in any wrongdoing. The Liberia National Police is committed to maintaining its integrity and upholding the law to protect the rights and safety of its citizens.
