Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) leader, Mr. Alexander Cummings has signed the Farmington Agreement, committing to a violence-free election in Liberia. The signing of the agreement took place on Monday, April 5, and was witnessed by various political leaders and representatives, including members of the CPP, civil society groups, the United Nations (UN), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The CPP leader emphasized the importance of ensuring the sanctity of the electoral process and protecting all participants, especially female aspirants. He also called on all parties to adhere to the agreement, including the ruling party, and for the government to adequately fund the National Elections Commission (NEC).

Mr. Cummings expressed his gratitude towards the involvement of the UN and ECOWAS in ensuring that the election is free, fair, and credible. He also thanked the young Liberian lady who spoke during the event, calling out the leaders and speaking truth to power.
In his statement, Mr. Cummings said, “The future of our country lies in the hands of every single person in that room today. We must not take our commitments for granted. Our country is at a crossroads and already, we have had incidents of violence. This must stop.”
He urged the NEC to respond swiftly to issues of violence and electoral violations during the election period. He also acknowledged the work done by the CPP representatives in ensuring that the party was fully present and committed to the people.
The CPP leader appealed to the Liberian people and civil society groups to hold their leaders accountable and ensure the full implementation of the Farmington Agreement. He emphasized that citizens have the right to report cases of violence or violations of laws and urged them to be a part of the process.
The signing of the Farmington Agreement is a significant step towards a peaceful election in Liberia. It sends a clear message to political leaders and their supporters that violence will not be tolerated. The commitment of all parties to the agreement will help ensure that the electoral process is credible and transparent.
