Determine Girls, the reigning champions of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Orange Women’s Upper League, have secured their third consecutive championship win in the league, amidst controversy surrounding one of their opponents.
The LFA crowned Determine Girls as champions of the 2022-23 Orange Women’s Upper League season on Sunday, April 16, 2023, following an investigation by the association. The investigation revealed that DC Shooters, one of Determine Girls’ opponents, had used illegal players in a match against Determine Girls in November 2022, which ended in a goalless draw.

As a result, two points were deducted from DC Shooters, which were then given to Determine Girls, placing them at the top of the table with a point ahead of Ambassadors. While Determine Girls were two points behind Ambassadors with just one more game remaining to conclude the season, their win against Bassa Girls secured their hat-trick of championship wins in the league.
Determine Girls’ President, Grace Hawa Weah, expressed her excitement and appreciation for her team’s success this season, hailing them on Facebook, “Finally it’s over! 3rd Championship in a row!! A new achievement UNLOCKED! Top performance from the girls. WE ARE CHAMPIONS AGAIN!!!”

However, amidst the celebrations, DC Shooters’ President, John Winn, has been banned by the LFA for one season due to fraud. The LFA released a statement stating that Mr. Winn had issued falsified documents to six foreign players, allowing them to travel from Benin to Liberia. Additionally, Mr. Winn had processed Liberian birth certificates and National Identification Cards bearing Liberian names, leading to his suspension from all football-related activities under the LFA.
