Fireboy DML, a famous Nigerian artist, has shared a story of how he overcame poverty and became signed to one of the biggest record labels in Nigeria – YBNL.
In his story, Fireboy explained how he left his village to chase his dream in Lagos. His house rent expired while he was in Lagos, and he was on the verge of sleeping under Logos’ bridge. It was at that moment that his life took a remarkable turn.
“At that time my rent had expired and the only option was to go and sleep under the Logos bridge or inside the studio. Before Olamide messaged me, a YBNL A&R told me that Olamide was picking interest in me and I might be signed to YBNL at any moment,” Fireboy recalled his trying times.

Amid this amazing news, Fireboy said he didn’t believe it. He felt it was some sort of fallacy because the news was too good to be true.
“I never believed it, until Baddo posted on Twitter “Welcome to YBNL Fireboy DML.” everything changed for me. My Dad was never happy when I left home to chase my dream in Lagos, but today my mom tells me the Old man plays my songs all the time,” Fireboy DML said.
Fireboy’s story could be used as a pathway for incoming musicians around the world. His story tells that no matter what the circumstances might be, we should always keep our heads up high.
