However, the meager salaries she received were far from what her qualifications deserved. Determined to provide for her extended family and meet their needs, as well as her own family’s expectations, Mercy decided to leave those jobs behind.
Reflecting on her journey, Mercy shared, “They were hand-to-mouth jobs. I have extended families to feed and take care of. Not even talking about my own family expecting things from me at the end of the month. The salary I got was not sufficient. So instead of continuing the jobs, I quit them.” The disappointment of repeatedly applying for jobs and not receiving any interview calls over the past three years motivated Mercy to become her own boss and strive for a more rewarding future.
Mercy’s dedication to her craft is evident in her academic achievements. She holds an exceptional three-pointer graduate degree in Public Administration from Cuttington University and possesses several certificates in human resource management, monitoring and evaluation, finance, and catering. As she nears the completion of her studies in Management Information Systems at AIIST, she continues to sell pepper kala, combining her entrepreneurial spirit with her commitment to education.
Mercy’s vision for the future goes beyond her pastry business. She dreams of owning a catering shop that will provide employment opportunities for young Liberians, empowering them to create their own paths to success.
