Days after referring to Senator Jeremiah Koung as a ‘human parts dealer,’ Henry P. Costa offers a public apology for his defamatory remarks.
Before Costa’s outburst against the senator, there was news circulated everywhere on social media that Costa and his team had offered a huge sum of money to the former Joseph N. Boakai for Costa to go as vice running mate to the former VP.
While appearing on his show to address the controversy, Costa acknowledged that he had been approached by a diverse group of people who suggested he run as the vice-presidential candidate alongside Joseph Boakai. However, he denied placing himself in that position.
According to Costa, the news about him being considered as a potential vice-presidential candidate was leaked by Jeremiah Koon and his team, who had ambitions of running for the same position.
“It was Jeremiah Koung who gave these lies because he wants to become a VP to Joseph Boakai,” said Henry Costa on his show.

He angrily continued, “Where is Jeremiah Koung coming from? Jeremiah has been supporting the CDC government. Jeremiah Koung is a human parts dealer.”
The accusation was met with swift condemnations from Koung’s team and other social media users. The incident also drew the attention of officials, who expressed concern about the impact of such baseless claims on the country’s reputation.
In the wake of the controversy, Costa issued a public apology to Koung, acknowledging that his remarks were unfortunate.
“On Saturday, I reached out to Senator Jeremiah Koung, Political Leader of the Movement for Democracy and Reconciliation (MDR), in the spirit of reconciliation. I offered to him my sincerest apologies for the unfortunate comments I made about him on The Costa Show sometime last week, in the spur of the moment,” Costa wrote.

According to Henry, Senator Koung accepted the apologies in good faith and expressed admiration for his [Costa] work.
“Senator Koung was graciously magnanimous and accepted. He expressed his admiration for the work we do for our beloved country. We both agreed to mend fences and move on. It was a good call.”
The incident has highlighted the delicate balance between free speech and responsibility in a country still grappling with the legacy of a brutal civil war.
While many Liberians admire Costa for his courage in speaking out against corruption and injustice, the episode has raised questions about the ethics of using unfounded allegations to score political points.
