Lucas Richards, an American missionary, has been arrested by the Liberian National Police for allegedly lacerating the throat of his girlfriend in Caldwell, Bushord Island.
During the evening of September 14, 2023, the Liberian social media community began flooded with alarming posts about a lady known as Jessica Lloyd and her hubby, Lucas Richards.
According to eyewitnesses, the American missionary was seen slitting Jessica’s throat in a bush along the road. Fortunately for Jessica, she was rescued by a tricycle rider who hurriedly rushed to her aid when Mr. Richards was carrying out this dangerous act.
Jessica Lloyd is currently admitted to a local hospital in Liberia, while Lucas Richards is in police custody pending investigation. In his first public appearance since the incident, Lucas denied the accusation and attributed his girlfriend’s injury to a hit from a bike rider.
“She was standing beside the road waiting for a bike to go home when she got hit by a bike rider. When she fell in the dish, that’s how I left what I was doing and went for her in the bush,” Lucas Richards said in an interview.
Contrary to the missionary interview, Jessica’s mom said the first major incident between the couple was when Lucas Richards injected her daughter with drugs that forcefully removed her pregnancy.
She claimed that it was through the pregnancy reconciliation process that Lucas Richards took her daughter to carry out the alleged killing in the bush.
Meanwhile, the church that sent Lucas to Liberia has made a post on Facebook asserting that the missionary was robbed. The church claimed his phone and money were stolen, along with the criminals damaging his vehicle.
Amid the claims and counter-claims, the public is mounting pressure on the government of Liberia to come up with an impartial investigative outcome of the case.
