Former Vice President Joseph Boakai is mounting a determined opposition challenge to President George Manneh Weah’s incumbency in a bid to become Liberia’s next President. Recognizing the importance of widespread support, Boakai passionately rallied the people of Nimba County during a recent campaign rally in Ganta City, urging them to back his presidential ambitions.

With a more assertive tone, Boakai is traversing the country, focusing on the three most vote-rich counties to solidify his bid for the presidency. His message emphasizes experience, track record, and a mission to rescue Liberia from what he claims is President Weah’s failed leadership.

“Nimba is known for standing behind its own, and I urge you to stand behind your son Koung and provide him with your full support,” Boakai passionately expressed, recognizing the importance of local support during his campaign as the standard bearer for the opposition Unity Party.

Boakai, although soft-spoken, has adopted a more assertive tone while canvassing for votes across the country, aiming to solidify his bid for the presidency by gaining support in the three most vote-rich counties.

During the rally in Nimba, Boakai and his campaign team emphasized his experience and track record, fervently appealing to the people of the county to fully support the Boakai-Koung ticket. They claimed that their ticket was “on a mission to rescue Liberia from the hands of President George Weah who has failed.”

“If we are to win these elections in the first round, we can do it by simply supporting him,” Boakai passionately appealed, raising Koung’s hand in a symbolic gesture. “I brought your son who we believed in and think he can deliver. I will be happy if you can support us to deliver Liberia and bring growth and development.”

Boakai further highlighted his longstanding relationship with Koung, emphasizing their shared commitment to rescue the country in the upcoming October 10 elections. “When we met, he said to me: ‘Old man, I will support you even if I am not chosen as your running mate.’ We made this decision because we wanted people who will contribute to the growth of this country,” Boakai shared, expressing his admiration for the entrepreneurial spirit of the people of Nimba County.

Nimba County, with its strategic significance in Liberian politics, holds substantial influence in national elections and is considered a crucial battleground for candidates seeking widespread support. The county has 308,421 registered voters and has historically favored Senator Prince Johnson, a figure revered as a “freedom fighter” by many, despite demands for accountability for past atrocities.

Senator Johnson’s support has bolstered Boakai’s belief in his ability to defeat President Weah, who secured the presidency in 2017 with the elder Nimba Senator’s assistance. Boakai presents himself as a candidate accessible to the people, aiming to allay public concerns about his health and emphasizing that his experience in politics equips him with the necessary leadership capacity to effectively address key issues.

Under Boakai’s leadership, there will be a strong focus on job creation, promoting homegrown industries, attracting foreign investment, and improving the education system. He envisions providing every child with access to quality education and opportunities for higher learning.

“These elections are about who can deliver real results and ensure a better Liberia for all,” Boakai stressed during a rally in Bong County, a day before his trip to Nimba. “I know how to get things done, and I am dedicated to serving the people with integrity and honesty.”

Boakai and his team focused on differentiating him from his opponents during the rallies in Bong and Margibi counties. They highlighted his experience and track record, contrasting them with his political rivals. The team claimed that a Boakai administration would prioritize job creation and strive to provide equal opportunities and a better quality of life for all Liberians.

According to Boakai and his team, Liberia has experienced a decline since Weah’s ascendance, particularly in agriculture, education, and health. They aim to restore hope and progress under the Unity Party, assuring voters that their leadership can deliver if given the chance once more.

Boakai vowed to fight corruption vigorously, starting with a comprehensive audit of the current government, and promised to hold wrongdoers accountable. His county tour began in Montserrado County, the largest voting population and a political stronghold, where he wasted no time outlining his vision for Liberia’s future and making a strong case for the presidency.
