Monrovia — The Defense Minister of Liberia, Daniel Ziankahn, has warned politicians not to cross the political red line if things do not go their way.

Minister Ziankahn made the statement during the nation’s 66th observation of the Arm Forces day. His declaration comes months after Gen Prince C Johnson, Chief of Staff of the Army, warned politicians to move in with the army should things overwhelm the National Police.

The minister has, however, assured the population that the Liberian Army would be independent, void of political affiliation.

In a daring remark, the minister said: “I want to admonish every political actor irrespective of their political affiliation to remain peaceful and civil during the heated process. We encourage you to pursue your dreams of becoming whatever you want to be, but the sad reality is that your dreams, eagerness, and aspirations will more often than not fall short of the collective will of the electoral.”

He continued: “Our passionate plea will be don’t dare cross the democratic red line beyond the collective will of the people, if your dream falls short. We will stand by the expressed will of the people in line with the Constitution of Liberia.”

Minister Ziankahn’s pronouncement has caused panic among citizens as many people say his words are threats to scare people. Especially where these warnings keep coming back-to-back from ranking members in the security sector.

In more related news, President Weah used the occasion to acknowledge the progress his government and development have made to support the army and the security sector.

He said despite the few resources, his government changed the narrative, ensuring that the army is trusted.

“The investment we have made in our military and our security sector with the strong support of our partners has given all of us the reassurance of a safe and secure society as we get closer to the General and Presidential elections that will take place this year,” George M. Weah.
