Monrovia — Benita Urey, a non-political figure in Liberia, has expressed her disappointment over being excluded from certain activities due to her perceived lack of support for the ruling government.
In a recent statement on her Twitter page, Ms. Urey shared her desire to contribute to positive change in Liberia and her willingness to work with anyone to achieve it.
She has expressed her passion for working with anyone for the overall good of her country. Even though she’s not involved in politics, Benita said, “people continue to exclude her from activities.”
“Despite me not being involved in politics, people continue to exclude me from things because they say I don’t support the ruling government,” said Benita Urey.
She continued: “It’s heartbreaking because I actually have the passion to help change Liberia. I’m willing to work with any and everybody.”

Benita Urey’s comments highlight the political divisions that continue to exist in Liberia, despite efforts toward national reconciliation. Many citizens feel excluded from political and economic opportunities based on their perceived political affiliations.
Nita’s exclusion from certain activities is not strange to many people because her father is the political leader of the All Liberian Party (ALP) and is also a staunch supporter of the leading opposition figure in the country – Joseph N. Boakai.
For a government where many of its ranking officials have said on countless occasions that this is their time, it’s not very strange to see even non-political actors complaining.
