The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced that it is facing unforeseeable challenges with power generation in Cote d’Ivoire, causing a shortage of electricity supply to Liberia beyond contracted capacity.

CI Energies, the electricity supplier through the Transco-CLSG transmission lines, is no longer able to supply Liberia with electricity, which is currently well above the corporation’s generation capacity.

As a result, LEC may not be able to meet domestic peak demand, which currently stands at 74 MW, causing the corporation to undertake selective load-shedding to match electricity demand to the available capacity.

The impact of such an unfortunate development has left Liberians facing a shortage of power supply, which could disrupt the day-to-day activities of businesses and households.

The Liberia Electricity Corporation, however, remains hopeful that water inflow into the Mt. Coffee dam will improve over the coming days, enabling the full operation of the dam. The corporation has urged its customers to be patient as they work to address the situation.

The electricity shortage is expected to cause significant challenges for Liberia, a country that has struggled with power supply for years. The government has been working to improve the country’s electricity infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of the Mt. Coffee hydroelectric power plant, which was destroyed during the civil war and recently reopened to boost the country’s electricity supply.

The Liberia Electricity Corporation is encouraging its customers to conserve energy and use electricity wisely during this period of power shortage. The corporation has assured its customers that it is working tirelessly to find a solution to the current power challenges.

In conclusion, the shortage of electricity supply to Liberia beyond the contracted capacity due to unforeseeable challenges with power generation in Cote d’Ivoire is an unfortunate development.

The Liberia Electricity Corporation has assured its customers that they are working tirelessly to find a solution to the current power challenges and has urged its customers to be patient during this period of power shortage.
