In a landmark verdict, Criminal Court ‘A’ has sentenced former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, along with three family members, to life in prison for the murder of Charloe Musu on February 22, 2023. The sentencing was delivered on Tuesday, January 9, following a conviction verdict reached by 11 out of 12 jurors on December 21, 2023.
Despite an appeal lodged by the defense lawyers, Judge Roosevelt Willie stood firm in delivering the sentence. The decision came after the consideration of a pre-sentencing investigative report provided by probation officers, recommending mercy based on the absence of prior criminal records for the convicts.
However, Judge Willie chose not to factor in the probation report. Alongside Cllr. Scott, Rebecca Youdeh Alice Johnson, and Gertrude Newton were convicted on charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, and raising false alarms to law enforcement officers.

Throughout the trial, the defendants, including Cllr. Scott vehemently denied the allegations. Cllr. Scott, the only witness testifying on behalf of the three, implicated Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee, accusing him of orchestrating the attack and murder of Charloe Musu at her residence.
Despite the defense’s efforts to cast doubt on the premeditated nature of Charloe’s death, the majority of jurors, after five months of trial, found the prosecution’s evidence more compelling. The trial featured compelling narratives and testimonies from both sides, culminating in the guilty verdict on all charges.
As this high-profile case continues to unfold, stay tuned for updates on the appeals process and any further developments in this legal saga.
