  • The family of former Chief Justice, Gloria Musu Scott, has refuted the claim by Cllr. Arthur Johnson that she “knows” the individual who allegedly murdered her niece.
  • Johnson, who is the lawyer for Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee, had made the assertion during a press conference on May 4, which the Scott family says is part of a politically motivated campaign against the former chief justice.
  • The family maintains that Scott had publicly stated earlier that she knows the identity of the person who killed her niece, and Johnson’s comments are a deliberate misrepresentation of the available facts.

The family of the former Chief Justice, Gloria Musu Scott, has spoken out against Cllr. Arthur Johnson, Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee’s lawyer, recently claimed that Scott “knows the individual” who killed her niece, Charloe Musu, in February.

In response, the family has vehemently denied Johnson’s statement, describing it as a “bloody and bold-faced lie” and part of a politically motivated campaign of misinformation and character assassination.

The family has accused Johnson of deliberately misrepresenting Justice Scott as part of a broader effort to divert public attention from the facts surrounding Musu’s death, politicize the ongoing investigation, and allow the perpetrators of the heinous crime to go free.

They also argue that Johnson’s actions are intended to support a range of conspiracy theories that he and his allies have put together, which seek to confuse the public and bury the truth.

According to the family, Scott had already provided crucial information regarding Musu’s death during her first appearance at the Liberia National Police headquarters in March.

Scott stated that she “knows for a fact that there was somebody in our sleeping quarters who should not have been there, and this person is the person that killed Charloe Musu.” The family reiterated Scott’s statement and revealed that Musu did not die alone, as she was attacked by an unknown individual who was in their sleeping quarters.

The late Musu’s death occurred during the third attack on the former Chief Justice’s home by unknown individuals on February 22. Following the first two attacks on her home, Scott alerted the police and the Ministry of Justice, but no state protection was provided.

After Musu’s death, former chairman of the erstwhile Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Cllr. Jerome Verdier alleged that the attack on Scott’s home was carried out by one Varlee Telleh, who served as an operations officer at the Monrovia City Police detail, under the direct command of Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee.

Verdier’s revelation forced the police to invite Koijee and Telleh for questioning. Johnson subsequently told the media that his clients were only questioned about their whereabouts during the incident, to which they responded properly, and that the police did not find any probable cause to press charges.

An autopsy report revealed that Musu died from multiple injuries that resulted in severe bleeding and damage to the blood vessel under her rib. The pathologist, Dr. Benedict Kolee, noted that a sharp object was used to pierce Musu several times in a violent manner and that the injuries cut a blood vessel under her rib, causing her to bleed profusely outside and inside.

The family of the former Chief Justice has warned Johnson and his associates to stop their campaign of misinformation and disinformation against Scott and the Musu family, as they reserve all rights to pursue legal actions under the laws of Liberia now and anytime legally permitted in the future.

They noted that both the raw audio and video of Justice Scott’s interview at the LNP Headquarters are still available on multiple social and traditional media platforms and in the family’s possession, as well as in the possession of lawyers and other interested individuals and institutions, including international partners.
