Barely one week after President Boakai’s inauguration, former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has thrown her hat into the ring for the 2029 presidential race, revealing her intentions during a recent episode of the live online talk show, Closing Argument. Howard-Taylor expressed her firm commitment to pursuing the presidency, citing her extensive leadership experience and unwavering dedication to national service.

In her candid remarks, Howard-Taylor emphasized that her journey in politics has prepared her for the highest office in the land, and she is determined to see it through. She highlighted her belief in her ability to make a significant impact on the country and reiterated her resolve to stay the course.

“I will contest 2029. Someone asked me a question, why do you want to be President one day. And I said, do you think I have gone through all of this only to get to it and say I’m turning around? That is a fraud in my character. When I’m on a trajectory as you know, it takes a bulldozer to turn me around,” the former VP said.

As the current political leader of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), following the Coalition for Democratic Change’s electoral defeat, Howard-Taylor discussed the party’s future within the coalition.

Meanwhile, NPP Chairman Atty. George Mulbah announced the party’s plan to field a presidential candidate in 2029. Mulbah reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to maintaining its distinct identity on the ballot, emphasizing the party’s electoral gains and its potential for broader representation.

Mulbah’s remarks signal a proactive approach by the NPP leadership to chart a path forward within the coalition. He stressed the importance of preserving the party’s autonomy while exploring collaborative opportunities to advance its political agenda.

“Though I’m not the final decision maker of the NPP, I will propose to the National Executive Committee; we can form a collaboration but we can’t again lose our identity on the ballot,” the chairman said.
