Monrovia — Top opposition candidate, Joseph Nyumah Boakai, has renewed the hope of Liberians when he announced the possibility of collaborating with his counterpart – Alexander B. Cumming.
Joe Boakai, Alex Cummings, and two other political parties joined a collaboration in May 2020 with the plan of unseating President Weah. Due to internal wrangling, Mr. Boakai’s party, Nyounblee’s faction of the Liberty Party, and the All Liberian Party left in late 2021.
Despite his party’s withdrawal from the collaboration, Amb Boakai says he remains open to working with Mr. Cumming and the Collaborating Political Party.
“Alex [Alexander Cummings] and I will always be friends and political collaboration is always necessary because we came together to defeat Weah and we’re still strong on that Weah needs to be defeated, we need all hands on board so our arms are always open to further discussions, we never close doors,” Amb Boakai said.

Mr. Boakai told the Day Break Africa of the VOA that he believes a single party cannot unseat the current president. Therefore, he needs all hands on deck to democratically defeat George Weah.
“I do believe that political parties and Liberians need to get together to see the need, even if we’re not organized political parties, we need all hands on board to remove this nightmare from our country, so, that is something that you cannot debate,” he said.
Recently, the former Vice President was taken to the ELWA Hospital, a local hospital in Liberia. When he got discharged, Mr. Cummings was one of the people who visited him at his home.
Mr. Boakai, however, clarified that Mr. Cummings visit was never about politics but rather a mere family visit.
Citizens who are in support of this news are happy as their long wishes are coming to fruition. Supporters have always hoped for a Boakai-Cummings ticket and hearing it from Mr. Boakai himself after a failed collaboration only revalidates their hope.
