Ganta, Liberia — A shocking discovery of mixed ammunition has been made in the heart of Ganta City, Nimba County, raising concerns about potential violence during the upcoming October presidential and legislative elections.
The discovery was made by a 16-year-old boy cleaning up his backyard in Blagay Town, and the ammunition included AK-47s and GNG rounds, among others.
More alarming is the fact that the stash was found next to the home of Abu Weamie, a well-known Ivorian armed robber who is currently in prison for an alleged armed robbery.
The discovery of the ammunition has caused widespread fear among Ganta residents, with many worried about the upcoming elections and the potential for chaos if the National Elections Commission does not handle the situation properly.
This recent discovery is not the first of its kind in Liberia. Earlier this year, a massive cache of weapons and ammunition was discovered at the Freeport of Monrovia and a private residence in Brewerville outside Monrovia, with both discoveries linked to a single source.

According to security sources, the shipments, which included assault rifles such as M16s and AK47s, had been shipped over a one-year period in batches.
The police seized about 450 machine guns at the Freeport of Monrovia and other areas of Montserrado County, and authorities have warned that the advanced sophistication of the weapons could potentially destroy the entire country.
With the elections just around the corner, the discovery of yet another stash of weapons in Ganta only heightens fears of violence erupting during the highly contested polls.
The country, already fragile, is now facing a significant challenge in ensuring a peaceful and democratic process for the upcoming elections.
