Monrovia — Liberia’s President, George Weah, spoke at a one-day retreat for the Communication Teams of the Government of Liberia, held at the Farmington Hotel, Roberts International Airport, Margibi County, on February 18, 2023.
He thanked all the officials, special guests, and distinguished ladies and gentlemen present at the retreat for coming together to discuss how to improve the quality of their work as members of the Communication Team.
President Weah emphasized the importance of quality communication in effective governance. He stated that good communication serves as a medium for information dissemination and helps to counteract deliberate misinformation, which has become frequent and prevalent these days.
He urged the Communication Team to use this opportunity to sharpen their communication skills, especially as Liberia approaches the presidential and legislative elections in October 2023.
The president pointed out that the lack of proper information can be a recipe for violence and chaos. Therefore, he stressed the need for necessary measures to ensure a peaceful and transparent election process.

“As all of us are aware, the lack of proper information can be a recipe for violence and chaos. And as the country prepares to conduct such a crucial exercise, we must put in the necessary measures that will ensure that the process is peaceful and transparent. This is a cause to which I am committed, and a promise that I am determined to keep,” President Weah stated.
He promised to keep this commitment, and he urged the Communication Team to do their best to communicate effectively with the public.
As someone who founded and operated media stations, King’s FM and Clar TV, some years ago, President Weah has firsthand experience of the benefits that come with good communication.
“I hope that you will remain mindful of this responsibility and rise to the challenge because improper communication is as bad as no communication at all. This is something that we cannot afford in a post-conflict society like ours,” President Weah lamented.
He acknowledged that, as a government, Liberia has been wanting in this arena and expressed hope that the gathering would help bridge the gap between fake news and the truth while also augmenting the Communication Team’s skills and knowledge.
In conclusion, the president urged the Communication Team to rise to the challenge of communicating properly, as improper communication is as bad as no communication at all, which Liberia cannot afford in a post-conflict society like theirs.
He wished the Communication Team fruitful and meaningful deliberations at the retreat. If you enjoy reading our articles, please share them with your friends, and follow us on social media.
