Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has swiftly revealed key appointments to his Cabinet just hours after his inauguration. Boima Kamara assumes the role of Minister of Finance and Development Planning, while Gregory Coleman is named Inspector General of the Liberia National Police.
Samuel Koffi Woods is appointed National Security Advisor, Sam Gaye takes on the role of Director of the Executive Protective Service, and Sylvester Grigsby assumes the position of Minister of State for Presidential Affairs.
These nominations are pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate. Boakai, sworn in as Liberia’s 26th president, has pledged to bring tangible benefits of democracy to citizens grappling with widespread poverty and discontent.
While we await the Senate confirmation of these appointees, there has been much criticism of Boakai’s first five nominations. Unlike the fact that he didn’t nominate a single female, which his critics could call gender imbalance.
