Monrovia — The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has suspended FIFA-badged referee Stanley Nush Konah, Jr. for a month from all footballing activities following a premature call-off of an Orange Cup match with LISCR FC on February 9th at the Samuel Kanyon Doe sports complex practice pitch.
According to the referee committee, which conducted an investigation, Konah’s actions embarrassed the LFA, leading to a complaint filed against him by Heaven Eleven on February 13th.
The committee dismissed other allegations raised against Konah but found that his call-off was unwarranted.

What Actually Happened?
February 09, 2023, Konah overturned the decision of assistant referee #2 for a foul and instead awarded a corner kick to LISCR, which substitute Sheku Sheriff delivered brilliantly.
The match eventually went to penalties, with LISCR leading 2-1 after three shots, and Heaven Eleven missing three of their four shots taken.
As LISCR was set to take their fourth penalty, which could have clinched an eventual victory, angry supporters believed to be fans of Heaven Eleven began threatening the match officials.
As a result, Konah abandoned the match and was eventually barricaded off the pitch by security personnel.
What Does the Suspension mean?
Konah’s suspension means that he will not officiate any football matches or participate in any football-related activities for a month. He will have to undergo additional training before being considered for future assignments.
Meanwhile, the fourth official, George Momo, will continue the Orange Cup match from where it stopped with the same officials, including Gleekan Garteh (assistant referee #1), Johnny Duncan (assistant referee #2), and Walatee W. Williams (match commissioner).
The LFA’s decision to suspend Konah has been welcomed by many, including football enthusiasts and players, who believe that referees should be held accountable for their actions on the field.
“Referees have a huge responsibility to ensure that games are played according to the rules and regulations of the sport. When they fail to uphold these standards, they must be held accountable for their actions,” said James Kollie, a football fan.
The LFA’s decision to suspend Konah for a month sends a clear message that the organization is committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism and integrity in the sport.
It is hoped that this decision will serve as a wake-up call to all referees to ensure that they adhere to the highest standards of conduct on the field.
