Monrovia – As President Joseph Boakai is left with about three Cabinet Minister appointments, Senator Amara Konneh of Gbarpolu County has raised concerns over the imbalance in Boakai’s ministerial appointments.
In a social media post, Senator Konneh highlighted that out of the 15 ministers appointed, Lofa County leads with five ministerial positions, followed by Bong County with four. Additionally, Bassa, Bomi, and Nimba Counties each secured two ministerial slots, while Cape Mount and Sinoe Counties received one each.

“President Joseph Boakai has appointed 15 Ministers to head Ministries including 2 ministers of state without portfolio. Lofa has 5 (29.4%), Bong has 4 (23.5%), Bassa, Bomi, and Nimba have 2 each (35.3%) while Cape Mount and Sinoe have one each (11.7%),” Senator Konneh wrote.
The senator pointed out that this allocation leaves eight counties, including Gbarpolu, without ministerial representation, despite President Boakai’s promise of appointing a minister from each county. Notably, Gbarpolu, Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Kru, Rivercess, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, and River Gee Counties are yet to see ministerial appointments.

“With 3 cabinet ministerial appointments remaining, 8 counties (Gbarpolu, Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Kru, Rivercess, Grand Gedeh, Maryland, and Rivergee) are without Ministerial posts.”
Moreover, Senator Konneh raised concerns about the lack of diversity in the cabinet, noting that only one Muslim, Mamaka Bility, has been appointed so far. He also highlighted the underrepresentation of the Southeast region, which contains six counties but has received only one ministerial appointment.

The senator emphasized that while he and others supported President Boakai’s candidacy, it is crucial to remind him of his promises regarding regional inclusivity. He stressed the importance of holding the president accountable to ensure that the promises made during the campaign are fulfilled.
