Jackie Russ, a well-known Liberian videographer, recently shared a thoughtful message aimed at fellow entertainers. In his post, he emphasized that while musicians have the freedom to support any candidate they choose, it is crucial to avoid drawing comparisons with prominent figures like Davido.
Davido, a renowned artist himself, garnered attention not only for his musical prowess but also for his involvement in political campaigns. Jackie Russ pointed out that Davido’s financial status was already substantial when he campaigned for his uncle, which sets him apart from all other artists in Liberia.
“As a musician, it’s your right to support whoever you want but stop comparing yourself to Davido. He was already RICH when he campaigned for his uncle,” Jackie noted.
Even though musicians certainly have the right to align with political candidates, comparing oneself to individuals with distinct circumstances can be misleading.
Jackie’s post comes days after famous Liberian vocalist Kizzy W openly declared his support for the reelection bid of President George M. Weah. Since Kizzy’s declaration of his political alignment, people from both the ruling party and opposition community have had a lot to say, drawing a comparison that Davido once campaigned heavily for his uncle in the Nigerian elections.
While Jackie isn’t against anyone supporting their individual choices because it is their right to associate with anyone, he is cautioning those in the habit of comparing our stars to richer foreign musicians to desist from it.
