Monrovia — In recent news, the Supreme Court of Liberia has declined the Writ of prohibition from “Operation Save Bomi” on Western Cluster. The decision was made by His Honor Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr., Associate Justice presiding in Chambers.
This decision is related to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Liberian Government and the Western Cluster. Bomi citizens under the banner, “Operation Save Bomi” had petitioned the Supreme Court to issue a Writ of Prohibition to stop the implementation of the MOU, citing issues with its legality and validity.
In the decision, the Supreme Court noted that the issues raised in the petition are mixed issues of laws and facts that can be handled by the lower court. The lower court has the authority to take evidence and pass on the validity or legality of the MOU. This decision effectively denies the Writ of Prohibition and allows the implementation of the MOU to proceed.
The MOU between the Liberian Government and Western Cluster has been the subject of controversy and debate. Supporters of the MOU argue that it will bring economic benefits and development to the region. Opponents, however, argue that it will lead to environmental damage and harm to the local communities.

The decision by the Supreme Court is likely to be met with both support and criticism. Supporters of the MOU will view it as a positive development, while opponents will see it as a setback to their efforts to stop its implementation.
The decision highlights the importance of the judiciary in Liberia and its role in interpreting the laws and ensuring that justice is served. It also underscores the need for transparency and accountability in the decision-making process, particularly in cases that have a significant impact on local communities and the environment.
In the coming days and weeks, it remains to be seen how the decision by the Supreme Court will play out and how it will impact the implementation of the MOU. It is hoped that all parties involved will work towards a constructive resolution that is in the best interests of the people of Liberia and the environment.
