Liberia: Tragic Accidents in Liberia Leave Many Dead and Several Injured

Monrovia — Wednesday, March 21, 2023, will go down in history as one of the tragic days in Liberia as two separate accidents left several people dead and many injured in Montserrado.

One of the accidents occurred near the African Dream School on the RIA highway, where a truck carrying goods lost control and crashed into Kehkeh, leaving several people dead – including a police officer regulating traffic.

The other accident happened around the LPRC junction, where a Kekeh carrying huge planks collapsed and fell on a teenage student walking along the road.

In the accident around the RIA highway, the impact of the collision was devastating, as the truck plowed through several vehicles and pedestrians, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Over nine people, including a police officer, were killed, while several others sustained serious injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident was caused by loss of control by the truck driver, but investigations are currently underway to know the actual cause.

In the other accident, the victim was identified as an 11th-grade student of James Doe Young High School in Clara Town on Bushrod Island. She was walking along the road when the Kekeh driver lost control of the vehicle, and the planks fell on her, causing severe injuries.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the student was in excruciating pain as she succumbed to her injuries and passed away.

The accidents have caused widespread shock and grief in the country. Many have expressed their condolences to the families of the victims.

The incidents highlight the dangers associated with transportation in Liberia and the need for stricter regulations and enforcement to ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians on the roads.
