Monrovia — Liberia’s tough-talking Lawmaker, Hon Yekeh Y. Kolubah, has once again surfaced in the media for his staunch criticism of President Weah and his government.

On Tuesday, February 7, 2023, the opposition lawmaker appeared at the capitol building with two giant-sized billboards with a photo of him and two of the top opposition candidates – Joseph Boakai & Alexander Cummings.

Hon Kolubah said he printed these billboards because there are thousands of posters and billboards of President Weah being mounted all along the city of Monrovia, and the National Election Commission is doing nothing.

His action comes barely days after the Coalition for Democratic Change pulled out thousands of supporters for the renomination of President George M. Weah.

According to the National Elections Commission, the Presidential and Legislative Campaign period will begin on August 5 and end on October 8. Until this period, no political party or candidate is allowed to wear or display campaign materials.

Contrary to the election campaign’s date, the ruling party partisans were all well-attired in their t-shirts and caps. The most shocking thing was even state securities were fully dressed in partisan outfits.

The CDC-led government has since come under a series of criticisms from local and international partners, thus leaving them to issue a press statement.

In the issued press statement, the Chairman of the Joint-Security of Liberia, Justice Minister Counselor Frank Musah Dean, mandated the head of the EPS Director Trokon Nathaniel Roberts; to ensure that subsequently, such unprofessional display by any member of the EPS does not recur.

Hon Kolubah, on numerous occasions, has termed the Justice Minister as a joker and doesn’t listen to him. Despite the press release, Yekeh Kolubah says he would not sit and allow President Weah to campaign in front of him without him doing the same.

“Am I supposed to sit down for Mr. Oppong [Pres. George Weah] to run a campaign to me. He ran campaign to me and me, too, I’m running campaign to him,” the lawmaker rhetorically asked.

We are yet to see any statement from the National Election Commission. Their silence on this matter does not mean well for the elections ahead.
