  • Nuchie Meek expresses frustration over pageants receiving more advantages than mainstream music awards
  • Pageant winners receive cars, travel opportunities, and projects, while Artist of the Year gets small monetary rewards
  • Fans and supporters agree with Nuchie’s statement, calling for growth and development in the music industry

Nuchie Meek, a top Liberian Trapco rapper, has taken to social media to express his frustration about local pageants having more advantages than main streams awards.

In his post, Nuchie listed a couple of benefits that pageant winners received compared to musicians or “high fashion” entertainers in other awards categories.

“Local pageants have more benefits than High fashion awards in Lib,” the artist wrote. He continued: “Miss smell no taste can win car, travels, projects.. and artist of the year can get ‘free data and small money.”

Comparing Nuchie’s statement to a real-life scenario, a little-known pageant program (Miss Margibi) winner won herself a brand-new car and an opportunity to travel to Dubai on vacation to and fro.

Unlike these massive benefits of a Miss Margibi pageant competition, the MLMA Awards – which is unarguably the biggest award ceremony in the Country – Artist of the Year winner walks away with 160,000 LD (888 USD).

How can a small pageant competition have this massive benefit over a national award ceremony? This is the question Nuchie and other stars are trying to answer.
