Liberian President George Weah has expressed his frustration with the current opposition community about the lack of unity over the country’s peace and development. President Weah made these remarks at the Thanksgiving and Intercessory Prayer commemorating the nation’s 176 Independence Day held at the Philadelphia Central Church in Oldest Congo Town on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

In his statement, President George Weah shared his commitment to the welfare of the nation and his determination to bridge divides for the sake of peace and love for Liberia. He revealed that during his time in the opposition, he faced criticism from members of his own party for attending major national programs. Still, he believed it was necessary for the well-being of his people and the country as a whole.

“I did that for my people, for peace, and for the love I have for this country,” President Weah asserted, reflecting on his past actions that were driven by a strong sense of duty and dedication to the nation’s prosperity.

Highlighting his resilience in the face of criticism, the President acknowledged that he had been one of the most criticized figures in Liberia, even facing disapproval from his own parents. However, these challenges have not deterred him from his ultimate goal: to work tirelessly for the betterment of the people and to ensure their happiness.

Despite his unwavering commitment, President Weah expressed regret that not all members of the political landscape shared his approach to fostering unity and collective progress. He emphasized that the lack of unity and participation by some in national programs was disheartening, as it hindered the country’s path toward prosperity and development.

“When I was in the opposition, I attended major national programs even when I was criticized by members of my party, but I did that for my people for peace and for the Love I have for this Country. But it is regrettable that others are not doing same,” President Weah said.

He continued: “As far as I know, I am the most criticized son in Liberia, from even my parents and up till now but I am not deterred, as my greatest desire and goal is to work for my people and to keep their smiles alive”
