Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence emerged as the newly elected Senate Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate. Her victory marks an important milestone in the nation’s political landscape.

The election saw Senator Karnga-Lawrence securing a white ballot victory, a testament to the overwhelming support she had garnered from the majority members of the Senate. Before the formal opening, the majority had already signed a resolution supporting her candidacy, paving the way for her triumphant election.

Notably, Senator Gbehzohngar Milton Findley, her Grand Bassa colleague, graciously declined his nomination for the Pro-temp position during the proceedings, ultimately contributing to Senator Karnga-Lawrence’s white ballot win.

This achievement not only recognizes Senator Karnga-Lawrence’s leadership in orchestrating a successful campaign for the Unity Party Alliance but also acknowledges her steadfast support for President-elect Joseph Nyuma Boakai when key allies wavered, risking his presidential ambitions.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence now stands as Liberia’s second female President Pro Tempore of the Senate, following in the footsteps of Grace Beatrice Minor, who served as the first female President Pro Tempore from 2002 to 2003. Minor was a senator for Montserrado County.

Having chaired the Unity Party alliance campaign team that secured the election of Joseph N. Boakai and Jeremiah Kpan-Koung on November 14, 2023, Senator Karnga-Lawrence’s declaration of intention for the Pro Tempore seat has culminated in a historic and significant victory. Stay tuned for further developments as she takes on this pivotal role in the Liberian Senate.
