Spoon Talk CEO – Stanton Witherspoon – on Thursday, February 9, 2023, appeared in Federal Court to plead not guilty against the US Department of Justice’s charges of Wire Fraud.
On January 25, 2022, federal prosecutors filed three unsealed indictments against Stanton and 24 others for their alleged involvement in a scheme to sell fraudulent nursing degree diplomas and transcripts obtained from accredited Florida-based nursing schools to individuals seeking licenses and jobs as registered nurses.
According to multiple sources, Witherspoon appeared with his legal counsel Attorney Annabelle Nahra. It said that defendant Stanton Witherspoon pleaded not guilty to the charges against him by the federal prosecutors. Read the full charges through the story below.
The federal court released the defendant on a $150,000 bond with several other conditions attached. These conditions included surrendering his passport and all traveling documents for the case duration and appearing for pre-trails when called upon by the court.
Stanton is not allowed to seek employment in the nursing field, training, education, or whatever is associated with nursing. The release bond also does not allow Mr. Witherspoon to contact other defendants related to the case except through his legal team.
The court also restricts Stanton from possessing a firearm or other dangerous weapons. He is not allowed to sell his properties until the court modifies the release bond.
Defendant Witherspoon may travel to and from the Southern District of Florida and New Jersey but must inform Pre Trial-Services of his travels. He must also continue residing at his current residence in Burlington, New Jersey, and not change his address without the court.
Amid all these restrictions, the District Court of Southern Florida has agreed to have his ankle monitor removed as part of his bond release on Thursday.
According to reports, the court would arrest Stanton if he violated these restrictions.
No trial date has been announced, and an empaneled jury will hear the case at trial. Under US laws Witherspoon and others are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
History says 90 percent of federal cases do not go for investigation, and the federal court has only lost 0.4 percent of the 10 percent of cases that go through inquisition.
However, Stanton does not seem to be worried. But if he is found guilty, he will face 20 years of imprisonment. Read the full story below. Stanton Witherspoon Risks Spending 20 Years in Prison If Found Guilty
