Monrovia – Ahead of the 2023 general and presidential elections in Liberia, things are getting tense among politicians as everyone is fighting to make their way to the top of the nation’s highest seat.
President Weah was at the center of controversy when he accused the opposition leader of the Alternative National Congress, Alexander B. Cummings, of playing no part in making Coca-Cola stay in Liberia despite serving as a ranking member of the company.
Coca-Cola departed Liberia when President Weah initially took up the mandate to serve the nation’s highest seat. Although they are back now, the Liberian president is pointing fingers at Cummings and the entire opposition for playing a part in private companies and NGO departures.
He made the comments on Friday in New Kru Town when he launched the distribution of marine life jackets to fishermen under the auspices of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA).

“They only they do is to be on the Board of Coca-Cola and they’re boasting. To be on board is nothing. I worked with FIFA. If you’re on the Board and Coca-Cola is closing in Liberia and you do nothing, then you’re not serious,” Pres. Weah said.
He added: “Do you know how Coca-Cola came back to this country? Those that are boasting that they’re on the board, and what have you, they were there and they allowed Coca-Cola to close and leave. Today, the Coca-Cola that you’re drinking, you know how it came to this country?
It was through my instrumentality with my partners and it’s even better, it tastes better than what they took from us because everybody wanted to embarrass this government to show that ‘these children y’all brought, they don’t know anything,’ so, they were cutting their cards, taking their stuff back.”
Although the president didn’t acknowledge whether Mr. Cummings was still a Coca-Cola employee, it’s fair to note he (Cummings) was no longer an employee.
