Every new year season around the globe is popular and known to be the time when most people evaluate their activities and make changes where necessary. On the first day of 2023, a popular Liberian musician – Teddyride – took to his official Facebook to denounce every controversy with his long-time musical rivals.
Teddyride, an artist with many hit songs to his name, was involved in a lot of dramas in 2022 with top-notch musicians like Skinny Boi Kpanto and JZyno. Kpanto and Teddyride have gone head-to-head on different occasions with both of them calling each other names on social media.
On August 18, 2022, Teddyride was seen celebrating on Facebook against Kpanto when the Lost In Riddim musical festival got canceled by the organizers due to reasons beyond their control. The Lost In Riddim concert should have been held in California where Kpanto could have been the lone Liberian artist to rock the stage with global artists Wizkid, Burna Boy, Sean Paul, etc.
On the other hand, Kpanto has always described Teddyride’s voice as “terrible”, something he has attributed to that of a frog voice. The rivalry between these artists has been both helpful and destructive. Their controversies have also helped to keep the struggling industry busy.
Fast forward to 2023, Teddyride made a reconciliation on January 01, denouncing every beef with his musical counterparts. He began by listing a few of his achievements and positive moments in the just-ended year.
“It’s already the new year, last year was full of many positivity that I can’t name all (travels, endorsements, awards). Interestingly it was full of lot of dramas too,” the artist wrote. He continued: “A couple of artists and I had some misunderstanding that literally seems like beef.”
The “Find a friend like me” crooner also admits why this misunderstanding was ongoing, he was secretly enjoying his rivals’ music. “I was enjoying all my men movement and music especially, Petit by Kizzy W, We Outside by Kpanto, and Fall Down Inside by JZyno.”
Teddyride who is Orange Liberia’s brand ambassador has confessed that Kpanto has pushed him to make good and quality music. “It’s time we foster peace. Kpanto is a really good artist. He pushed me to go harder on giving y’all good songs. The competition was great,” said Teddyride.
Teddy is now looking forward to a year of no drama. Here is how he ended his statement: “I had a brief conversation with the Street President and it’s time we move forward. Let’s end the drama. It’s a new year. In this open manner, I wanna let my fans know that this year is 0% drama and 100% positivity.”
Teddyride’s post received a huge welcome in the comment section from music lovers and his followers. However, Kpanto hasn’t responded to Teddyride’s peace message, and it’s not clear whether Kpanto is willing to let go of the beef or not.
As things stand so far, it seems like 2023 is going to be a very serious year for Liberian artists.
